Bud was born and raised in Grinnell.
After graduating from high school Bud
enlisted in the Navy where he spent 4
years sailing around the world on a
aircraft carrier. After his
honorable discharge, he worked at
various jobs always wanting his own
business. That came true in 2005
when North Skunk Sawmill and Market was
established. A portable
Timberking Sawmill was bought, and Bud
started custom sawing, building
benches, birdhouses and selling
lumber. Vegetables were
grown in five outside
gardens selling at local Farmers
Markets . In 2006 two more
gardens were added, the business
incorporated and two high tunnel
greenhouses were built. Bud, his
wife Carla who is also
a Registered Nurse, son Bryce and
daughter Elizabeth are all active in the
family based business. Bud
is an Iowa Master Gardener. He's
committed to all his customers.
Future plans for the business is a solar
kiln, produce cooler, more woodworking
crafts and produce varieties.
